Our Impact
Since our founding in 2017, Mission: Cure has been working tirelessly to advance effective treatments for pancreatitis, with the ultimate goal of developing a cure. Together with patients, families, clinicians, and researchers, we are transforming the landscape of care and research.
Developing Therapies
- Defined a 10-year strategy to cure chronic pancreatitis, created with input from global experts
- Identified 60 potential “drug repurposing candidates”: approved drugs with evidence of action on pancreatitis targets
- Created a set of patient-centered outcomes to expedite drug development research
- 3 new pancreatitis therapies in development by companies with funding
- 2 promising new therapies in development by companies seeking funding
- 4 Clinical trials of repurposed drugs for pancreatitis + 1 innovative clinical trial using stem cells to treat chronic pancreatitis underway
- 4 clinical trials for pancreatitis pain treatments underway
Improving Care
We believe patients deserve the best care available today while we work toward a cure:
- Launched a patient-centered care strategy that sets the standard for holistic pancreatitis care
- Published “Designing for Hope and Resilience,” documenting patient and caregiver experiences
- Drafted best-practice care protocols to improve patient outcomes and experience
- Presented on patient-centered care at a Harvard continuing medical education course
- Defined pancreatitis-specific patient outcomes that are now shaping research and care models
- Helped develop pediatric patient passport
Engaging Communities
Building and amplifying the patient voice is central to our mission:
- Reached over 1500+ patients, 400+ parents and caregivers, 230+ clinicians and scientists through educational resources and events
- Expanded our resources to include FCS, AIP, and AP
- Hosted over 20 Webinars and published 3 toolkits
- Expanded access by publishing content in Spanish, Arabic, and Hebrew
- Convened a patient-focused drug development meeting with the FDA and contributed to the Voice of the Patient report
- Organized and led a patient panel at the NIH, helping accelerate therapies for pancreatitis
