Contrary to common understanding, chronic pancreatitis is not an alcoholic’s disease nor is alcohol the primary cause of chronic pancreatitis. Misinformation about alcohol and chronic pancreatitis impedes physicians’ ability to treat patients effectively and stigmatizes patients.

Pediatric Patient Passport

This passport includes recommendations based on pediatric-specific evidence and pediatric pancreatologists’ expert opinion, as well as personalized background information and treatment suggestions for each patient.

Camp Hope

Established in 2021 through a collaboration between Rebecca’s Wish and the National Pancreas Foundation, Camp Hope offers a unique overnight summer camp experience for children dealing with pediatric pancreatitis or those who have undergone TPIAT surgery.

The Patient Advocate Foundation is a national nonprofit organization that helps individuals with chronic, life-threatening, or debilitating illnesses overcome healthcare obstacles and access quality care. PAF provides case management, financial assistance, insurance counseling, and co-pay relief to patients and families.

Accessia Health

Accessia Health is a nonprofit organization that provides financial assistance for prescriptions, medical treatments and expenses, travel, and insurance premiums for those living with chronic medical conditions. Its program services include healthcare education, specialized legal services, and case management.

HealthWell Foundation

The HealthWell Foundation is a leading independent non-profit dedicated to improving access to health care for America’s underinsured. When health insurance is not enough, the HealthWell Foundation fills the gap by assisting with copays, premiums, deductibles, and out-of-pocket expenses.

Transportation Programs

Mercy Medical Angels

Mercy Medical Angels provides free transportation to medical care for patients diagnosed with life-threatening diseases or serious health issues. On the ground with gas cards, bus and train tickets and in the air with trips flown by volunteer pilots and the commercial airlines Mercy Medical Angels ensures that no one in need is denied medical care because they don’t have transportation.

Air Charity Network

Air Charity Network provides access for people in need who are seeking free air transportation to specialized health care facilities or distant destinations due to family, community, or national crisis. Air Charity Network serves all 50 states and its volunteer pilots utilize their own aircraft, fuel and time to provide free air transportation to medical facilities for citizens who are financially distressed or otherwise unable to travel on public transportation.

A Pilot Clinical Trial of Paricalcitol for Chronic Pancreatitis (ALLIANCE)

The proposed trial will examine the feasibility of testing the effect of the vitamin D analog, paricalcitol (also known as Zemplar), on health-related quality of life, imaging, and biomarkers in patients with chronic pancreatitis (CP).

Johns Hopkins Pancreatitis Pain Program

Johns Hopkins Pancreatitis Pain Program is a research and patient care program that brings pain relief and hope to patients with chronic pain caused by pancreatitis. In this program, a team of experts provide new pain treatments to help improve patients’ quality of life.
