Dr. Melena Bellin

WEBINAR SPEAKER

Melena Bellin is an endocrinologist, professor, and physician-scientist trained in pediatric endocrinology at the University of Minnesota with over 20 years of patient care experience. Focusing on diabetes and growth disorders, Dr. Bellin’s research specializes in total pancreatectomy and islet-auto transplantation. She is known for offering compassionate care to patients with type 3c diabetes secondary to acute and chronic pancreatitis, TPIAT, T1DM, and general endocrine conditions.

 

Dr. Bellin provides advanced care at the University of Minnesota Health Clinics, supporting patients with complex pancreatic conditions and diabetes. Dr. Bellin also leads groundbreaking studies in islet transplantation and pioneers treatments to enhance patient outcomes, including those with hereditary pancreatitis. Beyond the clinic, she mentors future medical scientists and has published over 150 peer-reviewed articles. Dr. Bellin has been honored as one of Minneapolis—St. Paul Magazine’s “Top Doctors” and has received prestigious awards. 

Driven by a commitment to patient care and scientific innovation, Dr. Bellin is at the forefront of transforming diabetes treatment by supporting various patient education initiatives.

Shruthi Meera Shankar

PATIENT SPEAKER

Shruthi Meera Shankar, from Bangalore, is the Consulting Project Manager for Mission: Cure’s Patient Education Program. She has been navigating the challenges of Pancreatitis for many years. Her journey with this condition began in 2013, leading to an official diagnosis of pancreatitis in 2014. By the end of 2015 she developed diabetes and her condition advanced to Chronic Pancreatitis in 2017. Shruthi is eager to share her experiences, particularly focusing on the diagnosis and treatment of diabetes. She hopes that by sharing her story, she can help other pancreatitis patients proactively manage their health.
