Operations and People Manager

Mission: Cure, a nonprofit founded in 2017 to cure pancreatitis and other costly diseases with poor outcomes, is hiring an Operations & People Manager. Reporting to the CEO, this position blends nonprofit operations, people operations, and executive support. The Operations and People Manager will be responsible for making sure Mission: Cure operates smoothly, implements efficient systems, and sustains an organizational culture of collaboration and excellence in a remote environment. Responsibilities:
Operations and administration:
- Coordinate organizational operations, including updating internal policies as necessary and implementing new policies and processes; ensure compliance with internal policies
- Manage and grow employee benefits, including health benefits (currently using an ICHRA) and retirement plans
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, include annual state charity registration filings
- Work with contracted accountant/bookkeeper to provide necessary information and review financial statements
- Implement and update internal systems and software, including file storage/knowledge management (currently using both Dropbox and Google Drive) and AI tools
- Determine whether the organization will commit to using a project management software platform and ensure any platform chosen is effectively utilized
Organizational management
- Plan and help lead annual in-person staff retreat
- Work with CEO to plan board meeting agendas, prepare materials, and manage logistics (quarterly board meetings, including one in-person board retreat)
- Manage annual strategic planning process and quarterly reviews, including preparing associated documents and presentations
Personnel and human resources:
- Manage recruitment and hiring
- Manage key vendors/consultants, including HR tools and IT tools
- Coordinate staff onboarding
- Recruit interns and lead internship program, including educational and social activities
- Support team culture, collaboration, and communication
- Coordinate weekly team meetings, including determining agenda, establishing timelines, and organizing workflows
- Coordinate team building activities, including weekly all-hands meetings, virtual coffee breaks, and in-person gatherings
Supporting the executive team:
- Grant operations support: maintain grants calendar, track deliverables, ensure on-time submissions
- Schedule meetings for CEO as needed
- Support the Board of Directors as needed
- Book travel for board and staff as needed
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in operations, human resources, and/or project management
- Exceptional organizational, project management, and written communication skills with acute attention to detail
- Strong team player with an open mind and a positive attitude
- Hands-on experience in a small, start-up organization with a growing staff
- Demonstrated ability to take responsibility for multiple, diverse projects and to complete them in a timely manner with minimal supervision
- Seasoned problem solver who can make decisions and creatively identify fit-for-purpose resources
- Demonstrated discretion handling confidential matters
- Project management certification a plus
- Demonstrated passion for Mission: Cure’s mission
Salary Range:
$70,000 – $80,000, depending on experience and location. This full-time position is remote, with the possibility of hybrid work in New York City. Mission: Cure is an equal opportunity employer. All candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S.
