Communications

Mission: Cure is a nonprofit founded in 2017 to improve the health and lives of people affected by costly diseases with poor and inequitable patient outcomes, starting with Pancreatitis, a painful inflammatory disease with no effective treatment. We bring a sense of urgency, efficiency, and innovation to the disease-curing ecosystem.

Role Summary:

The Program Assistant will support the creation, coordination, and execution of Mission: Cure’s patient education, communications, and outreach initiatives. This role will provide critical support for design, operations, and data analytics to ensure the success of programs that improve patient and caregiver education, expand outreach, and strengthen Mission: Cure’s impact. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented, and eager to learn, with the ability to seamlessly transition between content creation, administrative support, and data reporting.

You will report to the Scientific Communications Manager and support the communications workstream portfolio under her direction. The role will also assist the Director of Patient Advocacy and other team members on relevant projects.

This role is ideal for an early-career communications or digital marketing professional seeking hands-on experience in nonprofit communications, digital engagement, and patient and healthcare education programs.

Responsibilities:

Campaign & project coordination
  • Maintain the communications content calendar and assist with coordinating timelines for blogs, webinars, short-form videos, and social media posts
  • Support the planning and execution of social media campaigns for awareness days throughout the calendar year
  • Help produce communication campaign materials for webinars, fundraising campaigns, and patient registry recruitment
Content & communications support
  • Assist the Scientific Communications Manager with drafting and editing patient-friendly content for blogs, newsletters, social media, and email
  • Support development of video scripts, captions, infographics, and printed resources
  • Help create basic short-form reel content (TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube), including ideation and light editing
  • Monitor trends and flag opportunities for content or campaigns to the Scientific Communications Manager
  • Help plan, schedule, and post content across platforms
  • Track engagement, collect queries, and respond to comments appropriately
Patient education program
  • Track grant and sponsorship proposal timelines and flag planning needs to department leads
  • Monitor and respond to patient and caregiver inquiries via the inquiry management system
Operations & administration
  • Maintain organized content archives, project management board (monday.com), and supply and print material inventory
  • Support the preparation of presentations, reports, and event materials
  • Track progress across communications and patient education initiatives and maintain updated records for reporting
  • Assist with meeting scheduling, documentation, and follow-up across the patient education and communications domains
  • Support partner outreach and cross-promotion efforts by coordinating materials and communications
  • Attend US events and conferences as needed to represent organizational interests

Qualifications:

Required
  • Strong writing, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Ability to coordinate across multiple time zones, especially US & Gulf Standard Time, with availability between 9 am–2 pm Eastern
  • Ability to manage tasks across overlapping departments (communications, patient education, fundraising, and others)
  • Strong project management skills; detail-oriented, ability to work independently, problem-solve, and do what it takes to complete a project on time
  • Comfort with virtual collaboration tools (Zoom, Slack, Google Workspace, project management platforms like monday.com)
  • Proficiency in reading and analyzing data, creating charts/data visualization
  • Familiarity with tools like Canva and Mailchimp
  • Reliable high-speed internet (we are a virtual organization)
Preferred
  • Education or work experience in non-profits, health sciences, and communications 
  • Experience with AI tools to support content development, research, and workflow efficiency

Role Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary: $45,000 – $48,000 annually, depending on experience and location.
